Meet Laura Petiford, PMHNP, LMFT

We all need a little help from time to time. I have dedicated my professional life to helping adults better understand themselves, overcome emotional challenges, and create lasting, meaningful change. My goal is to provide a thoughtful, collaborative approach to care so you feel heard, understood, and supported throughout the process.

Our first appointment is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation where we'll spend about an hour discussing your life experiences, current concerns, medical and mental health history, strengths, and goals. Together, we'll identify what is working, what may be keeping you stuck, and develop an individualized treatment plan. Depending on your needs, that plan may include psychiatric medication management, therapy, lifestyle strategies, or collaboration with your primary care provider or other healthcare professionals.

I believe treatment works best when it evolves with you. As we gain new insights and your circumstances change, we'll continue to adjust your treatment plan to support your growth and help you build a more meaningful and fulfilling life.

I am a Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC), certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I am also a member of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA) and the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC).

Finding the right fit for your mental health treatment is no easy task. If you're seeking help for the first time, you've probably noticed the confusing alphabet soup of letters after mental health professionals' names and wondered what they all mean. More importantly, you may be wondering who is the right person to help you.

As both a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC), I bring two complementary perspectives to your care.

My training as a Marriage and Family Therapist teaches me to look beyond symptoms. I consider your life experiences, relationships, physical health, values, strengths, and the challenges you face because they all play an important role in your emotional well-being. If it's important to you, it's important to your treatment.

As a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I can evaluate whether psychiatric medication may be helpful and prescribe medication when it is appropriate. My goal is never simply to prescribe medication, but to work collaboratively with you to determine the treatment approach that best supports your goals and overall well-being.
